The Video Embed component allows you to easily embed videos from platforms such as YouTube into your page. You can include an optional caption for added context, and you have the option to adjust spacing above and below the video for better alignment with your page layout. We prefer authors use our University’s Kaltura platform for video embeds, but understand that other sources like YouTube may be necessary. If embedding content from outside our organization, please seek permission or approval before adding the video.

Example

Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah

Content Options

You can display a caption below the video to provide additional context or information. While optional, captions can help clarify the video content and enhance viewer understanding.

Usage

Do

  • Choose video content that is relevant and enhances the information on the page.
  • Use the University’s Kaltura platform for video embeds whenever possible.
  • Include a caption if it adds valuable context or information for the audience.
  • Use the spacing options to keep the video layout visually balanced with other content.
  • Limit the number of videos on a single page to avoid overwhelming the user.

Don't

  • Avoid embedding videos from unreliable or non-professional sources.
  • Do not embed videos that auto-play, as this can disrupt the user experience.
  • Avoid placing the video too close to large blocks of text, which can make the page feel cluttered.
  • Do not embed videos that lack clear permission or approval, especially from external sources.
  • Avoid using videos as the sole form of content on a page.
  • Don’t overload the page with multiple videos, as this can slow down loading times and overwhelm users.

Accessibility

  • For accessibility, we encourage authors to provide a clear and descriptive caption for the video, which can be read by screen readers. This ensures that users with visual impairments can understand the context of the video content.
